Warmly nicknamed “Mr. Cowboy,” Bob Lilly goes down in history as one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL. What put him ahead of the others was his combination of strength, agility, and his ability to make impressive tackles. As a part of the legendary “Doomsday Defense,” Lilly produced one of the most memorable plays in Super Bowl defensive history. His 29-yard sack of Miami Dolphin Bob Griese became an NFL record and further cemented his status as what many consider the “unblockable, unstoppable force of the Doomsday Defense.” The 11-time Pro Bowler played for the the Cowboys for 14 seasons and was inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980. His name was first to be inscribed on the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor and the Cowboys declared Nov. 23, 1975 as Bob Lilly Day to honor his induction.
